Your new tattoo has been covered by the tattoo artist with a wound film with adhesive (second skin). The film can stay in place for 3 to 5 days following your tattoo appointment. This allows the tattoo to heal in its own wound fluid, creating an ideal environment for subtle healing.
In the event that the bandage causes any discomfort or begins to peel off before at least 3 days have elapsed, remove the bandage using the previously mentioned methods and provide further care for the remaining days with a fragrance-free, mild cream.
For second-skin bandages
After the period of the second-skin you need to follow the below aftercare instructions:
Gently remove the bandage under warm running water.. If you notice ink fragments on the bandage, do not be alarmed; these are micro-fragments of ink that have dried underneath the bandage.
Wash the tattoo gently 2 times a day until the skin has healed (usually 2 to 3 weeks on average).
Dry the tattoo with a clean paper towel, blot and do not rub.
After drying the tattoo, apply a hypoallergenic aftercare product recommended by your tattoo artist with clean hands. Apply a smooth, thin layer to the tattoo (just enough to cover it). Do not oversaturate the area with lotion, as this could potentially harm the healing process, pulling pigment back up.
The tattoo should not be rewrapped with film.
Make sure your hands are always clean, and do not let the tattoo dry out during the healing process.
After second-skin period
During the healing process, it is important to pay attention to the following:
Do not take baths, swim, visit the gym or sauna until your tattoo is fully healed.
Avoid direct sunlight for 2 months. If this is not possible, use sunscreen with a high protection factor after the healing is complete. Always wear clean clothing over the tattoo during the healing process.
Do not touch or scratch the tattoo if it itches or if skin flakes off.
Skin disinfectants can hinder proper healing, and antibiotics can trigger allergies or antibiotic resistance. Use these only on the advice of a doctor.
